Honoring a Legacy: Sytsema Funeral Home & Cremation Services

Losing a loved one is one of the most challenging experiences we face in life. In times of grief and sorrow, having a compassionate and professional funeral home to rely on can make a world of difference.

The City of Norton Shores is grateful to have one name stand out for generations, Sytsema. The Sytsema Funeral Home and Cremation Services was founded in Muskegon in 1929. The Lee Chapel, located at 6291 Harvey St., has been a part of the Norton Shores community since 2007 and has diligently served the families of Norton Shores ever since.

Sytsema Funeral Home is a family-owned business with a team of dedicated professionals who go above and beyond to provide compassionate care and support to families during their time of need.

Craig and Scott Sytsema recently attended the 16th Annual Graystone Associates Summit, North America’s leading funeral home consultant company. During the summit, they had the opportunity to learn and share ideas with other top-tiered family-owned funeral homes. Based on family survey results, the Sytsema team was recognized with two 1st place awards.
The first award was for “Support and Follow-up,” highlighting the Sytsema team’s commitment to being there for families every step of the way; providing comfort and assistance during the funeral process and beyond. The second award was for “Advocate Score,” which reflects whether families would recommend Sytsema Funeral Home to others. This recognition is a testament to the unwavering dedication and care that the Sytsema team brings to their work, putting the needs of families first and ensuring that they receive the highest level of service and support during their time of bereavement.

“We strive for excellence in all we do, and we are proud to bring that to the families we are honored to serve,” said Scott Sytsema, Funeral Director & Manager of the Lee Chapel.

But that’s not all – they also achieved Top 5 results in four other categories: “Presentation of the Deceased,” “Value,” “Overall Satisfaction,” and “Total Performance Index.” These achievements reflect the team’s commitment to excellence in all aspects of their work, from providing dignified and respectful care for the deceased to offering meaningful and personalized services that meet the unique needs of each family.

In addition to their recent recognition from the Graystone Associates Summit, the Sytsema team has also been selected as the Best Funeral Home in the Grand Haven Tribune’s 2023 People’s Choice awards, as voted by members of the community. With locations in Ravenna, Spring Lake, Muskegon, and Grand Haven, Sytsema Funeral Home & Cremation Services is deeply grateful for the trust and support they have received from their friends, neighbors, and the families they have served. Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services’ commitment to excellence and compassionate care makes them a pillar of the Norton Shores community. They are proud to continue honoring the legacies of loved ones with the utmost care and respect.
