Past and present members of the Norton Shores Police Department, along with many dedicated volunteers, provide a Department of Natural Resources approved Hunters Safety Program twice per year. Our program includes simulated hunting training and actual field instruction.

Participants must have taken the online Hunter Safety and/or Bow Hunter Safety course(s) prior to taking the field day. Proof of completion is required by 8/19/22 The online classes can be located on the Michigan DNR website. Successful students will receive a Hunter and/or Bow Hunter safety certificate after passing the online class, field day, and written test.

All students will need to be at the Police Department before 8:00 AM on the scheduled Field Day. You will then be bussed to the field location which has no private parking available. Those who are late will not be permitted to take the class. This is outside, please dress for the weather.

This course is provided at no cost, however, a $20 fee will be assessed to families who fail to cancel within 10 days of the course start date. Although typically, we have a waitlist for this program, failure to cancel denies others from participating. Children 10 and under MUST be accompanied by an adult during the field day. Parents and or guardians are encouraged to attend with the student regardless of age.
